Dial Zero is an interactive VR game I created for the 2018 Global Game Jam - a 48 hour worldwide game development event. The team for this project was
fairly large, which allowed people to focus on their favorite and best parts of game development. I was the
main programmer and created all the gameplay systems. This included a switchboard manager to distribute
calls to the player at random intervals, and chooses random available jacks for them to connect to.
The goal of Dial Zero is to manage an old school phone switchboard and connect calls as they come in. When the
phone rings you need to quickly identify which light is blinking and connect the incoming line to that jack.
A random voiceclip then plays, asking you to connect them to a destination. Another jack will start blinking now,
which you will need to connect with the other line. Make sure to unplug them once they are done talking to free up the line! You can
mess up by missing calls, not connecting people in time, and having no open lines available when a call comes in.
Three strikes and you lose!
Despite our limited timeframe, we managed to put together a clean game that is really fun to play once you
get the hang of it. We plan to continue development for Dial Zero and eventually release it on Steam.
